GetJar survey gives important figures about applications download

Yesterday GetJar published the highlights of their latest consumer poll. The poll was conducted over the past month and they received over 13,000 replies from apps consumers all over the world.

Key findings:

- 65% of our consumers are between the ages of 18-34 years old with over 80% being male
- 61% of consumers are downloading content at least 3-4 times per week
- 57% download apps, 22% games, 10% music, 8% wallpapers and only 3% ringtones (in general)
- 67% would be willing to pay for content
- 80% of its users consciously download apps that contain advertising
- 74% say they would actively download an app sponsored or developed by a well-known brand. GetJar
- 72% of its users access the internet more from their mobile handsets than from their computers
- 80% have recommended apps to friends

The feature making me more surprise is the text-to-speech API that allow synthesizing speech from text, for immediate playback or to create a sound file.

Unofficial Bluetooth API for Android

Stefano Sanna released in the past days a new version of his Bluetooth API for Android, the version 0.2. Some of the changes compared with the previous version are:

• Bug fixing for RSSI (signal level of discovered devices) and I/O management;


• SDP support to discover the RFCOMM channel assigned to a specific service  of a discovered device

These are added to the first release features:

• Chance to start and stop the device Bluetooth;


• Discover of the remote Bluetooth devices;


• RFCOMM client connection

The library is available from http://code.google.com/p/android-bluetooth ed e’ distribuita con licenza Apache 2.0. It has been tested on Android 1.1 and 1.5 and it doesn''t require any hacking.
