Check if a J2ME application has been sent to background correctly

Some device allow to put a J2ME application in background with this piece of code:

display.setCurrent(null);

To check if the cal was succesfull, we can use the isShown() method of the class displayable. So if m_disp is your displayable you can use:

Spetactor replaces official refree giving three penalties. No onecomplains

The incredible fact happend during an amateur match in the last weekend in the Italian small city of Narni Scalo in Umbria. The official refree failed to show for the match so a spetactor decided to ask to replace him.

During the game the refree gave three penalties and no big complains came from the crowd watching the game.

The spectator was a member of the federation of refrees of Umbria but the other spectators didn't know that and they were a way more polite than in situation where they know the refree comes from the federation.

Nike has launched a new iPhone app targeting footy fans - or at least those who want to get off their sofas and develop their skills.

Nike Football+ Presents: Master Control is its slightly cumbersome title, and it's free to download from the App Store.

The application offers a four-week skills training programme designed by coaches from FC Barcelona, complete with videos. Stars included in the app are Pep Guardiola, Andres Iniesta and Cesc Fabregas.

Arsenal fans may wonder why their captain is appearing in a Barca-dominated iPhone app. Perhaps Nike really does have an inside line to future transfers...

The application also includes a Fabregas-branded Challenge, which lets users benchmark their skills and post scores to a global leaderboard.

GetJar survey gives important figures about applications download

Yesterday GetJar published the highlights of their latest consumer poll. The poll was conducted over the past month and they received over 13,000 replies from apps consumers all over the world.

Key findings:

- 65% of our consumers are between the ages of 18-34 years old with over 80% being male
- 61% of consumers are downloading content at least 3-4 times per week
- 57% download apps, 22% games, 10% music, 8% wallpapers and only 3% ringtones (in general)
- 67% would be willing to pay for content
- 80% of its users consciously download apps that contain advertising
- 74% say they would actively download an app sponsored or developed by a well-known brand. GetJar
- 72% of its users access the internet more from their mobile handsets than from their computers
- 80% have recommended apps to friends

Unofficial Bluetooth API for Android

Stefano Sanna released in the past days a new version of his Bluetooth API for Android, the version 0.2. Some of the changes compared with the previous version are:

• Bug fixing for RSSI (signal level of discovered devices) and I/O management;


• SDP support to discover the RFCOMM channel assigned to a specific service  of a discovered device

These are added to the first release features:

• Chance to start and stop the device Bluetooth;


• Discover of the remote Bluetooth devices;


• RFCOMM client connection

Utility application to monitor your j2me application power consumption

On 9 March Nokia released the version 1.2 of Energy profiler a Symbian application you can use to monitor how the power consumption of your phone changes when you try a J2ME application (or other type of software).

As stated in the Nokia website:
"It is an application that enables developers and device users to examine power consumption and several other parameters on S60 devices. The reporting provided by the Nokia Energy Profiler enables developers to identify and improve application functions that consume excessive amounts of power and thus to create higher-quality applications."

The application works on Nokia series60 3rd and 5th edition devices.

The features added in the version 1.2 are:

• Touch UI support.


• Capture of WLAN received signal strength and 3G cellular network T1 and T2 timers.


• New graphing features.


• New CSV output features.
